Indianapolis Architect Community

Objectives

March 9th, 2007 Meeting Objectives
i. Review and refine HelpMatch vision
ii. Create draft roadmap/action items

Community Objectives
i. Our primary objective is to become better architects by providing a forum for active learning.
ii. Develop a network of relationships with other Indy-area architects.

(Draft) Community Vision
We will work on an architecture so that we can learn by doing. We will place the architecture in the public domain, piloting the idea of "open source architecture". This will extend the learning opportunity to others outside the Indy-area Architects Community, and give us the benefit of receiving input and constructive reviews from architects around the world. We propose working on the architecture for HelpMatch, to provide a needed service to the world.

Meetings

Meetings have been held on the 3rd Thursday of every month. This is choice has been adversely impacted by holidays throughout the year, so we will revisit this schedule at the February 16th meeting, and decide whether to change this for 2006.

Audience

The Indy-area Architect Community is open to practicing architects, whether you bear this title or not. Enterprise architects, and architects and senior designers in information systems, products, software, solutions, business, etc., will all find this to be a useful forum where architect peers gather, share experiences and learn.

Admission

This event is free and open to practicing architects in information systems, products, software, solutions, business, etc. The qualification is commitment. You must have a clear intent to maintain a high level of attendance and participate fully in the monthly meetings.

The objective of this community is to do real work that will enhance our effectiveness as architects. This objective will be undermined if the group meetings become too large. Please let us know if you are planning to attend.

To keep these events free of charge, we do ask that you contribute to the forum actively. If your company can host one or more of the monthly meetings, please volunteer to do so. If your company is not providing meeting space, please be sure to volunteer to provide snacks for at least one of the meetings.

Add to Mailing List

If you would like to join the Indy Architect Community (see Admission commitment above), you can also join our mailing list so that you will receive notice of forthcoming events. Please provide your name, title, company name, and email address in your add to mailing list request.

History

The Indy Architect Community held its first meeting in February 2005. Dana Bredemeyer of Bredemeyer Consulting gave a presentation on the Role of the Architect, and the work session that followed focused on what the Indy Architect Community wanted to accomplish to support its members in their quest to become great architects. This event was sponsored by Bredemeyer Consulting.

The second meeting was held on April 15, at the Microsoft Offices on the northern side of the city. 21 architects made it to this meeting, with representatives from 7 companies. The session was organized by Barry Crist (Eli Lilly) and Scott Anderson (Microsoft). Meetings continued through 2005, but attendance was impacted by the summer slowdown. With the new set of meetings (2006) focused around doing real work on an architecture, we expect attendance and commitment to pick up again.
