Bridging the Divide:
From Strategy to Architecture

Workshop QuickFacts

Instructor: Dana Bredemeyer

Seminar Overview

This is a day for business leaders and their lead architects to cross to the other side of the divide and build the strategy-technology bridge that will fundamentally change the path of strategy implementation.

Whether we seek to lead through innovation, customer intimacy or operational excellence, architecture is the essential foundation for agility, responsiveness and effectiveness.

Architecture provides that clear line-of-sight from strategic intent to implementation, and from code to strategy.

Benefits

  • Learn what architecture needs from strategy and what strategy can gain from architecture.

  • Learn how to connect the dots from strategy to business capabilities to products and services to customer value.

  • Learn how to make architecture the platform for strategic advantage.

Instructor's Background

The workshop leader, Dana Bredemeyer, has over 20 years experience architecting, designing and developing software systems, including 16 years with Hewlett-Packard. He has provided architecture consulting and training to architects, architecture teams and their management at the project, organization and business unit levels, and has helped teams develop software, firmware, system and enterprise architectures.

Motivation

Why We Need to Bridge the Business/Technology Alignment Gap

In today’s decentralized organizations, with high value being (appropriately) placed on individual creativity and contribution, everyone makes strategic decisions as part of their day-to-day job. Without architecture to guide and align these decisions, however, these decisions tend to be at odds and the whole is not greater than the sum of the parts.

Architecture is what provides the context for all the individual technical decisions to be aligned with the vision and strategic direction. It is what provides focus and leverage, and concentration of energy, powering the technology capability essential to execution of the business strategy.

See Enterprise Architecture as Capabilities Architecture for an introduction to our approach to connecting business strategy and enterprise architecture.

Audience

This seminar is designed for architects and their business sponsors:  CIO's and Enterprise Architects, business unit managers and chief architects, product portfolio managers and senior product line architects. The value you get, depends on who you bring with you!
